Leading Bitcoin Miner GDA Unveils 60 MW Wind Energy-Powered Texas Data Center, Plans Site Expansion to 400 MW

Ambitious phase 2 scaling underscores GDA’s commitment to Texas, doubling down on the state’s pro-innovation business climate and abundance of renewable energy.

Vernon, Texas 8/29/2024 — Genesis Digital Assets Limited (“GDA”), one of the largest bitcoin mining companies in the world in terms of hash rate, has announced that its Rowdy Data Center is operational and revealed its plans to expand the site up to 400 MW.

Supported by Oklaunion Substation, the data center is currently running at 60 MW. It’s located near Vernon city and will benefit from a substantial wind energy setup around Wilbarger County. The announcement comes during a period of rapid expansion for GDA after recently opening centers in South America and Sweden, with more on the horizon.

“GDA’s business is a natural fit for the Oklaunion Power Station,” said Tom Walker, Chairman of OPS Board & CFO of the Dallas Cowboys. “This project clearly demonstrates that Bitcoin mining creates entirely new dynamics for the energy industry and can generate unprecedented opportunities for innovation in the sector.”

Housed within the premises of the retired OPS, the Rowdy Data Center not only utilizes grid power with renewable energy sources for its operations but also brings back dozens of jobs that were lost with the retirement of the OPS project that happened in September 2020. So far, 12 permanent jobs and around 150 construction jobs have been created due to GDA’s operations.

“The proliferation, success, and security of the bitcoin network increasingly runs through rural American communities,” said Andrey Kim, CEO of GDA. “Texas has emerged as a leading hub for local support and an abundance of renewable energy sources, and the Rowdy data center is a particularly important location for our operations.”
